Virtual Artist Talk with Riho Kawachi

Ceramic artists are at the heart of Baltimore Clayworks. Artists are at the center of the mission of Baltimore Clayworks, and provide the organization with talent and innovation to inspire our community and to enliven the artistic impact of ceramics in our region. Their professional and personal networks provide a kaleidoscope of interactions with peers, galleries, and academic institutions, which keep the organization at the forefront of contemporary ceramic art.

Artist Bio

Riho Kawachi is a potter living in Tokyo, Japan. She entered Tokyo University of the Arts, and in 2015, when she was an undergraduate student, started producing ceramic works. She earned an MFA from Tokyo University of the Arts in 2018.

She has been researched the production of porcelain works mainly centered on Sometsuke and the firing method. After graduating from graduate school in 2020, started her own activities at a shared studio.

She went to Taiwan last year to study Chinese and participated in a residency for the last three months. After returning to Japan, set up a studio at home and creates ceramic works every day.
