Main Gallery: Community Through Fire, Invited by Jeremy Wallace

Solo Gallery: Featuring Sara Hutton and Tim Duncan, Wood Kiln Associates

Invited by the Wood Kiln Technician, Jeremy Wallace, “Community Through Fire” showcases the artwork fired in our wood kiln in recent years and also shares the testimonies of the artists for what it means to be a part of the community aspect of wood firing; nurturing the connections around the wood kiln and building the community through wood firing experience. Baltimore Clayworks has the distinction of being one of the few non-profit ceramic art centers with a wood kiln located in a major metropolitan city. The Wood Kiln Program at Baltimore Clayworks started with the original down-draft kiln built by McKenzie Smith in the early ’90s, and after multiple rebuilds by master kiln builders such as Ken Bichell and Kevin Crowe, our current two-chamber catenary arch wood/soda Noborigama was built by Matt Gaddie in 2016. The program offers over 12 firings annually to 150+ community artists from Maryland, Virginia, and Pennsylvania. It also provides educational opportunities to students from local academic institutions including Towson University, Maryland Institute College of Art, Morgan State University, and Community College of Baltimore County.
