Recent Sculptures: David Aaron Friedheim

April 2, 2018 @ 8:00 am April 6, 2018 @ 5:00 pm

The Project Space Gallery show Recent Sculpture features the whimsical works of metal sculptor David Aaron Friedheim. Life-size, ridiculous, and constructed from recycled and re-imagined parts, you can see the mischievous joy involved in their making and hopefully, some of that fun will rub off on the viewer. “I start with intuition followed by reflection and critical evaluations.  Some things can only be thought with the hands. I like building something large out of an accumulation of smaller parts. The element of play is important in my work; serious, creative play.”

David Aaron Friedheim received his BA from the State University of New York at Binghamton and his MFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, MD.  He has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions throughout the United States.  He had built artwork on commission for private and public clients including such firms as Bill Graham Presents.  In 1999 he was a founding member of the The Crucible, a school devoted to linking the arts, industry, and community in Berkeley, CA.  Currently he lives in Baltimore where he co-directs the collaborative art group Grendel’s Mother with his fellow artist and wife Trisha Kyner.  This past year he received an Individual Artist Grant from the Maryland Arts Council in the category of Crafts.
