Artists Membership: General Information
Artists Membership at Baltimore Clayworks is an active juried membership that enables potters, sculptors and other ceramic artists to develop their careers and their work in clay. The benefits of active juried membership include the following:
• professional interaction with peers use of facilities,
• participation in Clayworks’ events,
• group and solo exhibitions,
• web presence for themselves and their work,
• year-round gallery representation,
• teaching opportunities,
• and the ability to apply for support through the Nyburg Fund for Artists’ Development and the Taiwan exchange artists program.
Artists are invited to participate in the ongoing artistic life of the organization by serving on committees, attending gallery openings, teaching in Clayworks’ classes on and off site, and joining Baltimore Clayworks at the national level through its presence at NCECA.
Jurying takes place twice yearly in mid-May and mid-November. To qualify for membership, an applicant must submit an application form, 12 images, image list, resume, letter of intent artists’ statement and 3 references with contact information. Once the application is accepted, a $100 membership fee is required for annual dues by January 1 for the coming year to become an active juried member. Active member artists are expected to participate by giving seconds to the annual Seconds Sale and donating a piece to the Fall Gala. A minimum of 10 volunteer hours are expected during the year. Artists accepted in the May jurying round pay a $50 fee until their next full year of membership.
Artists who have been Baltimore Clayworks Resident Artists for three or more years and have transitioned to another studio, graduate school, or other ceramic-related endeavor may continue their affiliation as an active member by declaring their intention to do so and paying their annual dues and meeting Artist Membership criteria. Artists may elect to choose an “inactive status” which allows for communication and events, but not participation in sales or group exhibitions. Artists may elect to become “active” at any point by contacting the Executive Director
