KATE BORCHERDING

BALTIMORE’S HALF MOVING MEMORIES. The narrative sculptures in this exhibition were inspired by the historic section of the city: the architecture, the monuments, the museums, the preservation of history and the flow of people in a compressed city space. Drawing from her background as a printmaker, Kate Borcherding embeds marks, symbols, patterns, textures and layers into the clay and attempts to capture, into the clay, the process of the making. Pushing this idea to another level, Kate sought to capture the longue durée of Baltimore expressed in its embedded cultural artifacts of architecture, frieze, monuments and museums.
