Afternoon Camps - Ages 6-9

Creatures and Figures
Using basic hand building techniques, children will enjoy pinching, rolling and pulling clay into imaginative or realistic forms. This playful exploration of animal and face forms will bring coiling and pinching techniques together to form wonderful new sculptures. Campers will also learn new ways to glaze and decorate their lively hand-crafted pieces. Class includes all materials and firing.

Afternoon Teen Camps - Ages 12-15

Teen Wheel
Teen WheelIn this one-week class, students will learn the fundamental techniques of throwing on the potter's wheel. We will begin learning various centering techniques on the first class. After students have learned how to center, they will explore the process of creating vessels, cups and bowls. Students may complete anywhere from 5-15 finished pieces. Techniques such as trimming and building handles will also be covered. Students will finish their work by applying various glazing methods and surface treatments to decorate their pots. Class includes all materials and firing.

Full Day Camps (Ages 6-12)

Full Day camp classes begin at 9am and end at 4:15pm, with pick-up until 5pm.

Each week features a different theme and presents a variety of clay and multi-media projects. Campers have two classes in the morning, a break for lunch, and continue with two more classes in the afternoon.

Summer Camp students

Cultures in Clay
Children will take a journey through the wondrous world of indigenous art. From Native American flutes, to spirit vessels of the Americas, children will be inspired to create their own versions of these native works. Using clay, paper, and other materials, students will also create traditional rain sticks from Australia, as well as animal vessels from Africa.

Modern Masters
This educational week will feature two artists per day, introducing campers to artists such as Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso, as well as Shoji Hamada and Bernard Leach. Campers will learn about the artists’ work and their influences, and create their own inspired clay figures and tea bowls. Children will draw, paint and craft with their new appreciation of art history!

Our Earth – Ocean and Plant Life
Dive into a week of underwater fun! We will create clay coral reef sculptures as we investigate the plants that live in our ocean. Children will enjoy making clay slab fish plates, fish prints on paper, and frog pinch pots. Whales, dolphins, and sharks will join our voyage, while we examine and craft sea shells into beautiful necklaces and mobiles.

Ancient Civilizations
Children will journey back in time and learn about ancient Egypt and Greece through books and pictures of their art. These ancient civilizations created numerous ceramic vessels and wall paintings which will serve as inspiration for our projects. Campers will build and decorate their own fantastic coil pots, vases and urns. Egyptian figures and animals will be preserved on brilliant bas-relief tiles and drawings to be enjoyed for centuries to come!

Human and Animal Forms
Through drawings and relief portraits, campers will enjoy creating self-portraits of the human and animal kind! By observing one another and using their imaginations, children will make free-standing figures and small busts. They will explore animal forms by building ceramic animal bowls and colorful animal masks. Using paper, fabric and clay, campers will also fashion their own lively marionettes.
